Low Power Design

Transmode products prove that environmental awareness can be good for your business

With approximate energy savings of up to 80% when compared to the previous generation of technology and considerable savings when similar solutions available today, Transmode's Low Power Design helps our customers keep OPEX down and their profits up.

That means a healthy bottom line and a healthy environment. With typical power consumption in Gigabit Ethernet Backhaul solutions as low as less than 7W per Gigabit Ethernet and less than 10W per 10 Gigabit Ethernet, this offers an immediate and long-time benefit. An advantage that will grow with time in light of rising energy costs

Energy savings with a bonus

It takes almost 5W to cool every 10W of heat generated by systems in a typical telecom environment. This means that for every 10W you save, you can lower air-conditioning requirements by 5W, a further 50% saving on energy.

The low power consumption enables more compact network elements, and also makes it possible to serve more customers per cabinet. An example from the UK showed that an additional 50 broadband customers could be connected at each of more than 100 sites – meaning over 5000 extra customers were connected at no extra cost to the operator. All thanks to a low power backhaul solution provided by Transmode.

How we do it

Our in-depth knowledge of optical networks, coupled with a consistent focus on metro WDM and low-power hardware design, means our solutions are designed with power efficiency and a small footprint right from the start.

Through providing single board solutions we are avoiding unnecessarily complicated backplanes on the chassis. Our multi-service muxponder and high density transponders 2x10G, 4x2.5G and 4x4G are just some examples.

The Transmode iWDM framing format is used in many of our solutions. Despite its superiority, it actually requires less complex circuitry and that directly translates into lower power consumption.
