STOCKHOLM, Sweden - July 21st 2009 - Transmode , a leading provider of optical networking solutions, today announced that US network operator Kentucky Data Link, KDL, has successfully deployed Transmode's WDM solutions throughout its network to increase capacity, flexibility and competitiveness in support of its increasing customer demand.
KDL, headquartered in Evansville, Indiana, is a regional provider of wholesale fiber-optic transport services with a fiber network that spans nearly 30,000 miles and reaches into 26 states . Across the territories served, KDL connects heavily populated cities and rural areas alike with both long-haul and metro fiber-optic networks. Its services include private lines with speeds ranging from T-1 to OC-192, Ethernet and multiple wavelength services, interconnection services and customized solutions. KDL's services are supported by a dense super-regional network featuring small rings with low latency and central office interconnectivity. After a comprehensive product evaluation and a subsequent lab trial, KDL initiated early installations of Transmode's Intelligent WDM (iWDM(TM)) in support of some of its key customers and latest networking applications. "Transmode's solution allowed us to cost-effectively expand our existing infrastructure to better serve our customers" said John Iber, VP of Operations at KDL. "The attitude of partnership that Transmode brought to us was key in making our decision. Transmode's willingness to work with us to ensure timely delivery to our customers, ensure interoperability with our existing network and facilitate knowledge transfer to our engineering and operation teams was extraordinary. This partnership approach allowed us to rapidly deploy this technology and provide support after deployment far faster than could be accomplished with many other vendors." Transmode's solutions have allowed a smooth and cost-effective migration from 2.5G to 10G services. The initial deployments include 145 TM-Series nodes across 11 US states. The deployment also included the TM-Series' 4x OC-48 Muxponder which multiplexes four OC-48 into a G.709 framed OC-192 signal. Transmode has also provided related services such as 24/7 Technical Support as well as maintaining a local Advance Product Replacement (APR) depot ensuring next business day delivery of replacement spare parts. Engineers from both KDL and Transmode worked closely together in both the engineering and deployment stages to ensure a smooth integration into KDL's legacy network. "We were delighted to be chosen to provide equipment that both improved the scalability and flexibility of KDL's network" said Björn Andersson, Transmode's Vice President Sales. "This very large deployment is an excellent example of how Transmode's solutions continue to gain momentum in the North American market among carriers, service providers, and enterprise customers that are looking to dramatically improve their network efficiency and performance", he continued.
