Stockholm, Sweden – 25th March 2010 – Transmode, a leading provider of Optical Networking Solutions, today announced that Telenor Group, a Norwegian global telecommunications services provider, has signed an agreement for Transmode’s WDM equipment to build a new optical DWDM metro core network in Norway. Telenor is deploying Transmode’s TM-Series throughout 200 sites in order to meet the increasing demand for capacity from both fixed and mobile broadband traffic.
Transmode has been a longstanding supplier to Telenor of CWDM Metro Access networks since 2005 and this new Metro Core contract was won against stiff competition from other leading optical networking vendors. This additional contract represents a significant expansion in Transmode’s business with Telenor and is a strong endorsement of the companies’ ongoing Metro Access contract.
“It is essential for us to have a cost-effective, flexible and scalable solution to meet new multiservice demands and deliver the best quality services to our customers,” said Bjorn Netland Director Broadband Networks Telenor. “We chose Transmode from several other suppliers because it offered us a flexible and reliable metro DWDM solution at the lowest total cost of ownership.”
“DWDM networks with integrated service aggregation are an ideal way to simplify network operations and to increase the capacity and reliability of metro networks. Being able to easily manage reconfigurable optical networks over time means we can future proof our entire network.”
Telenor is currently offering its customers 1Gbit/s Ethernet services and will now be able to upgrade to 10Gbit/s rapidly. The company intends to offer HDTV services over the network and will be able to provide customers with more IP based services. Bjorn Netland added, “My main aim is to ensure we can meet the future requirements of our customers without adding large operational costs. I need to ensure the lowest possible total cost of ownership of the network and maximize flexibility.”
The Transmode TM-Series provides operators with a highly flexible and scalable WDM platform for applications ranging from regional and national networks to metro and campus networks. The platform includes industry-leading functionality such as integrated ROADM and Layer 2 Ethernet including Transmode’s unique Intelligent WDM (iWDM™) technology.
Björn Andersson, Transmode’s VP Sales, commented, “The Telenor decision to deploy Transmode equipment is yet another demonstration of our ability to supply to Tier One service providers and enable significant increases in capacity cost-effectively. We are delighted to continue our well-established working relationship with Telenor and win another global deal.”
