Cable TV/MSO backhaul solution for cost efficient transport PDF E-mail

Cable TV operators/MSOs are, like most other operators, experiencing higher and higher demands on bandwidth capacity. The introduction of DOCSIS3.0 allows high-speed services and access speeds in the area of 100 Mb/s, which puts considerable requirements on the backhaul network. The Cable TV/MSO backhaul network needs to cope with the bandwidth demands in the access segment, cost efficiently and as an enabler of new revenue streams.

Transmode’s WDM based solutions offer transport of all types of traffic, e.g. Gigabit Ethernet, SDH/SONET and Video.  It makes the most out of the existing optical infrastructure in order to leverage previous investments. Our continual focus on cost efficiency has enabled us to deliver capacity increase with the market’s lowest TCO (total cost of ownership) with no compromise in available functionality.

Through using our Intelligent WDM (iWDM™) concept we offer a seamless mix of CWDM and DWDM on single fiber or fiber pair configurations. Furthermore, iWDM helps Cable TV operators/MSOs build a converged transport and Ethernet layered network with the best network economics.

To enable Cable TV operators/MSOs to extend their business models to address the business as well as residential segments, Cable TV operators/MSOs are offered a solution that scales to meet their needs. Flexibility in terms of reach (1-1000km), traffic formats (SDH/SONET, Gigabit Ethernet , Video and SAN) and capacity (2.5G, 4G and 10G) are offered in Transmode’s solution. With solutions ranging from 1U single wavelength add/drop nodes to 10U central office nodes scalable to 80 wavelengths.

Finally, our solution allows the combination of integrated Ethernet switching functionality with Ethernet transport functionality. This packet optical network helps CableTV operators/MSOs to build a platform that supports the expansion to new services and to increase the service penetration rate.
