Mobile data traffic is soaring. Conventional backhaul networks cannot affordably scale to meet this demand. Transmode’s Multi-Service Mobile Backhaul Solution responds to the needs of mobile operators by pushing Intelligent WDM (iWDM™) technology to the cell site to cost-efficiently increase the capacity of the Mobile Backhaul. This is a successful way to utilize standard WDM technology and provides mobile, fixed and wholesale operators with a speedway to the cell site and cost efficient transport of native TDM and Ethernet traffic.
Uniquely, the solution supports multiple individually synchronized domains. Transmode’s solution is therefore ideal for mobile networks where one cell site may contain several mobile technologies or even multiple mobile operators, where the ability to handle synchronization from multiple sources is vital. Â
Optimized for the various traffic formats and capacity requirements often found in mobile or fixed access networks, Transmode’s range of Access nodes are built for high and low capacity demands as well as one node for pure Ethernet traffic. Using one single wavelength only, the traffic is further transported via the Hub deeper into the Backhaul network. The solution comprises:
Access: for collection of E1/T1 and Ethernet signals from Mobile base stations and co-located DSLAMs.
Hub: for aggregation of E1/T1 traffic from Access nodes into STM-1/OC-3 signals and hand-off of collected Ethernet signals.
Backhaul: for further transport of SDH/SONET and Ethernet signals up to switching centers via Layer-1 and/or Layer-2 solutions.
The Multi-Service Mobile Backhaul Solution transports TDM and Ethernet traffic natively and transparently. In this way it is possible to retain all of the native TDM and Ethernet attributes, while at the same time achieving the capacity and economics enabled by Ethernet.
