Intelligent WDM (iWDM™) technology was invented by Transmode and provides a cost-optimized transport of multiple services while simplifying the provisioning and operations of an optical transport network. iWDM also provides some unique advantages in terms of service transparency and support for multiple high quality synchronization domains.
The ability to support multiple services, and the quality of these services, is key to transport networks. iWDM provides a range of features found in other techniques such as forward error correction functionality, for extending the reach of a system, and performance monitoring for service level agreement maintenance. It supports multiple services and provides aggregation to the most cost-efficient transport bit rate that includes 2.5, 4 or 10 Gb/s depending on the application. For example the 10x Multi-service muxponder supports up to 10x Gigabit Ethernet services and therefore 25% more data capacity than other 8x solutions and also supports independent transparent SyncE support on each of the 10 ports.
iWDM also provides a patented automatic client protocol and bit-rate detection that reduces an operator's OPEX by removing the need for complex installation, commissioning and provisioning. It also provides in-band management capabilities that simplifies the management of remote network elements.
